Ringing in the New Cosmology: Implications of Recent Cosmic Microwave Background Experiments

I will review the physics underlying the recent observations of
acoustic phenomena in the cosmic microwave background by the
BOOMERanG and MAXIMA experiments and discuss their implications
for cosmology.
