Can Relativity be an Emergent Principle?
In a system with strongly interacting degrees of freedom, symmetries can
emerge in the low energy sector which are not present in the microscopic
Hamiltonians. In this talk, I shall show many examples in condensed matter
physics, where the relativistic invariance is a derived property of the low
energy sector, rather than a postulated principle. I shall outline a program
in which one attempts to construct models of fundamental interactions based
on the idea of emergent relativity.
