Superconducing RF (SRF) cavities have been operating routinely in a variety of accelerators with a range of demanding applications. The new century has brought major successes of completed projects and upgrades such as CEBAF and ATLAS, as well as the spectacular breakthroughs in cavity performance, both in gradient and Q. SRF cavities have now become an enabling technology offering exciting options for the traditional applications to High Energy-, Nuclear-, and Astro-physics, branching out into new applications for Light Sources, Neutron Sources and High Intensity Proton Sources to fulfill a variety of needs. With new construction projects such as LCLS2, FRIB and PIP-2 in the USA along with XFEL, ESS, SPIRAL-II and HI-Isolde in Europe, and with ADS in Europe, China and India, the total voltage is on the path to more than triple, from 7 GeV to > 25 GeV with the installation of nearly 2000 Niobium cavities. These performance advances and project installations have together launched the “Golden Age of SRF” around the world.
