RESEARCH AREA: Experimental medium energy nuclear physics; quark flavor and spin structure of the nucleon; few-body systems on the sub-femtometer scale; three-body force; polarized gas targets and polarimetry.
Description of Current Research: My current research focuses on the study of the nucleon and light nuclei using medium energy probes. In particular, I have used high energy photons at Jefferson Laboratory as a means to establish a signature for quark effects in nuclei. In the HERMES experiment at DESY, I am involved in studies of the parton and spin structure of the nucleon. I focused effort on measurements of polarization effects in polarized fragmentation functions for the ep ->e' lambda X. I have led developments of polarized gas targets for storage rings. The first use of a laser-driven polarized deuterium target in the Cooler ring at IUCF indicated dynamical evidence for the three-body force in nuclei. Presently, I am investigating the feasibility of performing measuring atomic parity violation in hydrogenic atoms.
