From 1944 to 1946 I was a young undergraduate-student-turned-soldier at Los Alamos. I will use a few of my own experiences and a few told to me by others to illustrate life at the lower levels at Los Alamos and how conditions in those years and the decade that followed them impacted the lives of many physicists.
