With the rapid global emergence and acceptance of additive manufacturing (AM) and 3D printing as a potentially transformational manufacturing method, the need for a broader array of 3D printable functional materials is becoming increasingly critical. My group develops novel processes for engineering new material inks that are compatible with direct ink writing, an AM technique that does not require lasers or high temperature to create user-defined, self-supporting 3D printed constructs. In this talk I will present new 3D printable material systems we have developed, their unique and advantageous properties, and their promise in a variety of medical and non-biomedical applications.
