Recent performance advances in superconducting RF (SRF) cavities have made RF superconductivity a vital technology for accelerators which serve a variety of experimental physics programs in nuclear physics, high-energy-physics and x-ray science, to name a few. New emerging applications are developing and pushing the limits of SRF technology which will enable research for next-generation light sources, high intensity hadron linacs, medical isotope production and national security. This presentation will discuss the physics of SRF accelerator cavities, recent world-wide performance improvements and their impact on future applications.
