Low Energy Nuclear Physics Research
Low energy nuclear physics research concerns itself with understanding the structure and stability of the nuclei in the world around us as well as the reactions which formed them in the cosmos. We are interested in generalizing our understanding of nuclei to encompass all bound systems, and understanding reactions between nuclei from very low energies (typically encountered in burning stars) to the very highest energies (encountered soon after the "Big Bang"). We also use nuclei with specific properties to probe nature's fundamental interactions. Our current overall research plan is part of the National "Long Range Plan" and aims to accomplish the DOE Strategic vision and Milestones.
Most of our research is performed at ATLAS, although we do research at other laboratories worldwide.
